Dream’s Legal Team is currently looking for Senior Legal Counsel to work alongside the team to critically evaluate and put in place sound legal and business structures across existing and new arrangements. The successful candidate will provide legal support across all Dream companies on a wide range of corporate, securities, governance and investment management matters, with a focus on private investment funds and asset management.

What will you do?

Below are some of the primary responsibilities you will be taking on in this role:

  • Provides legal analysis, advice, opinions and support as in-house counsel to all divisions of the company, with a particular focus on the private investment funds and asset management segments of the business;
  • Assisting with public and private transactions involving acquisitions, financing, public and/or private placements of equity and debt securities;
  • Assisting with creating optimal transaction and fund structures from tax and regulatory standpoint;
  • Guide and advise the business on developing and maintaining appropriate corporate governance, including overseeing compliance program for private investment funds;
  • Ensure coordination and alignment with the business and corporate functions, including Compliance, Risk Management and Audit;
  • Actively monitor and report on legal trends and laws allowing for timely anticipation of new requirements and their potential impact on the company;
  • Partner effectively with external counsel as required;
  • Assist with general corporate matters; and
  • Proactively recognize and highlight concerns and areas of potential exposure to risk as well as escalation of legal issues to the management team as appropriate.

What type of experience do you have?

These are some of the things we would like you to bring to the table:

  • 6+ years of proven experience in corporate law, corporate transactions and corporate governance. Particular experience or familiarity with asset management and regulation of private investment funds, including private equity, private debt, real estate and mortgages, in Canada and the U.S. will be considered a plus;
  • Highly focused with attention to detail;
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills;
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills with experience resolving complex problems; and
  • Superior organizational and time management skills with experience addressing multiple projects at once.
