Job Description

Ballard Power Systems has an opening for a dynamic Legal Assistant to support the Legal Department that includes a team of 4 lawyers and 2 patent agents. This position is regular, full-time at 5 days (40 hours) per week.

Reporting to the Director, Legal, the successful candidate will be highly motivated, energetic, proactive, and will be responsible for a wide range of duties.

Responsibilities:

  • Receiving and processing Confidentiality Agreement requests, filing executed agreements and following up on reminders;
  • Updating and maintaining files, records and contract templates in contract management system;
  • Assisting and coordinating with SEDAR and EDGAR filings;
  • Independently performing special projects of a confidential nature;
  • Processing invoices and expense reports for the Legal Department;
  • Monitoring and managing legal team calendar; and
  • Maintaining and updating contents that belong to the Legal Department on Ballard’s intranet.

Requirements:

  • Graduated from a recognized Legal Assistant program in Canada (or equivalent) or applicable work experience;
  • 3 to 5 years experience in a law firm or in-house setting;
  • Excellent computer and technical skills in all aspects of MS Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel);
  • Ability to work independently, think strategically, and to anticipate unspoken needs;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity in all aspects of work;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required;
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (oral and written);
  • Ability to take initiative, be responsive, proactive, detailed, flexible, professional and a great team player; and
  • Ability to work from our office in Burnaby for a minimum of 2 to 3 days per week.
