Your Opportunity

Reporting to Managing Counsel – Environmental Services, you will be an integral part of the company's Risk Management group and will have high level input to a wide range of legal and business issues affecting the corporation. Our Corporate Counsel are leaders in the organization with respect to ethics and integrity, and demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity supported by open and honest communication. This position is for 18 months.

Your Key Responsibilities

Corporate Counsel provide a wide range of legal services allowing for a diverse and exciting legal practice. The following is a list of major responsibilities of this role:

  • Providing legal advice, review and support for contract administration for a variety of professional service and construction agreements. This includes assistance with drafting, negotiating and approving a wide range of complex contracts;

  • Providing legal advice and conduct of complex litigation matters involving professional liability claims and general civil litigation;

  • Providing legal advice on employment and HR matters;

  • Provide assistance with commercial collections;

  • Consult and support other Stantec lawyers where and as required;

  • Supervise and manage outside counsel as required to support the above activities.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Occasional travel within United States and Canada will be required.

Education and Experience

  • To qualify for this role, you will possess a Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree, and be admitted to the bar in Alberta.

  • You will also have 5 or more years of relevant experience gained at a law firm or obtained in-house.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
