Qualifications
Law Degree and member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario or Le Barreau du Quebec.
6-8 years’ post-call experience practicing corporate-commercial law at a reputable law firm or corporate legal department.
Ability to work in a fast pace environment, handle multiple complex projects and carefully prioritize work.
Excellent written and oral communication, negotiation, client relationship, organizational, leadership and project management skills.
Flexibility and approachability.
Solution-oriented, with the ability to think critically, pragmatically and strategically with an entrepreneurial and business-focused mindset.
Business-minded; ability to see “the forest through the trees” and understand that the best in-house counsel are business people with law degrees.

Gérer et atténuer les risques juridiques, commerciaux et réputationnels importants de Rio Tinto en effectuant des recherches et des analyses juridiques ainsi qu’en fournissant aux équipes de gestion des conseils clairs et axés sur les affaires.

Assurer la liaison, établir et entretenir des relations de travail fructueuses avec les membres de l’équipe mondiale des Services juridiques de Rio Tinto et, à l’échelle locale, avec les unités d’affaires et les fonctions internes du Groupe en promouvant la collaboration et le partage de l’information.

You Have:
Bachelor's degree in Law (JD or LLB) and membership in good standing of the Bar.

Position Highlights
The successful candidate will join the ICBC Corporate Law Team. This team plays an integral part in helping the business remove barriers to innovation. You will work in a group of 10 creative solicitors (each with specific legal expertise). You will primarily contribute to the team with your commercial & technology law expertise.
Accountabilities
Drafting and negotiating technology (and other) commercial agreements.
Advising on a wide variety of matters requiring creative legal solutions.
Providing simple, straightforward and knowledgeable legal advice.
Helping the corporate law team with efficiency initiatives.
Providing training to colleagues and business clients.
Advising on legal developments and legislative changes.
Managing and overseeing external counsel as required. Advising on company policies.
Position Requirements
6+ years of experience as a commercial or technology solicitor (at a top tier law firm or in-house).
Ability to work with many different business groups on a wide variety of legal issues.
Ability to write and communicate complex concepts in a simple manner.
Solution oriented mindset, with a focus on achieving business objectives.
Strong ability to support, collaborate with, and negotiate on behalf of, business clients.
Strong organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
LL.B/JD or equivalent (and an active membership at the Law Society of British Columbia).
