Together we make Calgary a great place to make a living, a great place to make a life.   The City of Calgary has an opportunity for a lawyer with experience in commercial contracts to work with a diverse group of talented employees and consultants on The City's Green Line Project. Reporting to the Manager, Legal Services for Green Line, this position will be located with the Green Line Project team and will have a significant degree of responsibility. As a Project Lawyer, your primary duties will include:
  • Negotiate, draft, and review various types of contracts and agreements, including procurement documents, construction contracts, access agreements, confidentiality agreements, consulting agreements, various agreements with utility providers, and various types of correspondence.
  • Provide timely legal advice and opinions in the areas of procurement, construction, access, regulatory issues, and on other related matters that may arise.
  • Provide a high level of client service while addressing numerous time sensitive requests in a fast paced environment.
  • Work proactively to develop innovative solutions to legal and other issues to advance both project and corporate objectives while mitigating corporate risks.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.), Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), or equivalent degree from a recognized institution and be an active member or eligible for membership in The Law Society of Alberta.
  • A minimum of 8 years of directly related experience in the areas of commercial contracts and/or procurement law.
  • Previous real estate experience is considered to be an asset.
  • Demonstrated document drafting and analytical skills, strong organization skills, a high level of motivation, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
  • The ideal candidate enjoys collaborating with clients, is able to work independently but also as part of a team, and is creative and solution oriented in their approach to their work.
