About Us


The Legal Services Division of the Department of Justice is the government’s law office, responsible for the provision of all legal services (excluding prosecutions) to the Province of Nova Scotia.  As such, the lawyers in the Legal Services Division are accountable for providing legal services on a broad range of matters to the Government and many of its agencies, boards and commissions.


About Our Opportunity


You will be responsible for providing the Division with a variety of file and case management services in accordance with departmental and government policies, professional standards, legislation, regulations and procedures.  Your duties include preparation and processing of legal documentation and correspondence and assisting litigators in preparation for hearings, pre-trial procedures and trials.  You will assist solicitors to carry out comprehensive legal research, maintain databases, and perform due diligences searches, along with other related tasks as assigned. 


About You


You have a High School diploma and have successfully completed a two-year paralegal technology course from a recognized institution and 6 years of progressively responsible experience supporting a lawyer in their practice.  An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.  


In this role, you must have proficient computer skills, which includes knowledge of Document Management Software, MS Office and Adobe.  


As the successful candidate, you have a high level of initiative, judgement and decision-making skills.  You are security-conscious, and maintain confidentiality at all times.  You achieve a high degree of accuracy while handling a high volume of information, balancing conflicting demands and meeting timelines.  Able to function well independently and as part of a team.


Experience in labour, employment, or human rights law would be an asset for this position.


We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Pay Grade:  TE 21  


Salary Range:  $1,925.00 - $2,255.00 Bi-Weekly


This is a bargaining unit position initially restricted to current civil service employees represented by the Nova Scotia Government Employees Union (NSGEU).
